WIN A WEEK STAY AT JANE'S PLACE

 I have posted four different floor plans that I am considering for my house on the hill.  However, none of the designs are perfect.  My goal was always to involve as many people as I could along the way and it seems silly to not also seek input on the design of the house.  This led me to the idea for this contest.  You can submit a design for the house and if yours is chosen you will win a week stay at the home once it is completed.  The four designs I am considering and the criteria for for new designs are below.

CRITERIA

  • Cape Cod style house – which means 1 ½ stories
  • 3  bedrooms: 2 upstairs, one downstairs. The downstairs bedroom will be doing double duty as an office and guest room.
  • 2 full baths – 1 upstairs, 1 downstairs. (These both will be Clivus Multrum composting toilets.
  • Kitchen on east side with view of lake to the north
  • Master bedroom upstairs on east and north (view) side
  • Masonry fireplace in the middle of the home or close to middle. NOT on outside wall as this is a waste of heat.
  • Detached 2-car garage. (Not applicable right now)
  • Full basement
  • Rain catchment system
  • Solar panels – probably not on roof as there are many trees to the south, but likely as stand alones
  • Metal or slate roof (which is better for rain catchment systems)
  • Does not have to have a front porch on north (front) side as this may cause the house to be dark.
  • Screened-in porch probably on west side of house. (Floor Plan #4 has a grilling porch on the south side which is good, but we would like a larger screened in porch on west side.)
