Britney Graduation in Arizona and Putting in Chapel Posts

Dear Reader,
My! It's been a long time since I've blogged! How I've missed you, dear Reader!

I had a good excuse...I've been in Arizona attending my niece's (Britney) graduation from high school. She's the baby of the family, but not any longer! She's off to University of Arizona in a few months.

We were so proud of Britney, in case you can't tell from all the photos. I took over 170 photos, so consider  yourself lucky that I didn't put them all on this blog!

Britney knows sign language and was chosen as one of 8 graduates to "sign" the Star Spangled Banner  to start off the graduation ceremony. Dobson High School orchestra  (Mesa, AZ) was outstanding! It was the best music I' ve heard in a long time, and what voices, too! They played the Battle Hymn of the Republic featuring several male voices - Wow! Very moving.

Jeff and Angela (and my "granddog" Einstein) drove over from L.A. to be part of the celebration. What a great time we had! It went by too soon.

Britney looks just like my sister, Linda, and Linda is beautiful...so what does that say about Britney? I believe the photos show their likeness. Britney's older sister, Nicki (also beautiful!) and Nicki's husband, Jeff Wolfe, just graduated from ASU (did I already tell you that?) a few weeks ago. Jeff is going on to law school in the fall. Everyone is graduating. I've been at Patrick and Nicki's graduation from high school (didn't make their college graduation, but...) so I HAD to be there for Britney's ceremony. I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

Britney's older brother, Patrick, drove over from Albuqueque where he is working for Hewlett Packard. Christina, Patrick's girlfriend from Spain, was there too. In fact, this very night, Christina leaves for Spain after being here for 6 months. Patrick is going to be lost without her. Christina goes to Ireland to college in the fall, and they won't see each other for another whole year!  As you know, dear Reader, parting is such sweet sorrow.

Here is a run down of the photos, dear Reader, so you can be part of Britney's graduation:
Row 1 - Britney, Britney with friends Quinn and Charrise, and Britney again (all before graduation)
Row 2 - Jeff (my son) and daughter-in-law Angela, Linda (my sister) and husband Pat, Jeff and me
Row 3 - Angela, Christina (from Spain) and Nicki, Pat, Jeff Wolfe (NIcki's husband and designer of this website), Patrick (brother) and Jeff, last photo, Angela, me, Linda and Christina
Row 4 - Graduation on the field at Dobson High, Britney with diploma in hand
Row 5 - Proud parents, Linda and Pat with Britney; Christina, Patrick, Britney, Nicki and Jeff W.; myfamily with Britney.
Row 6 - Britney with friend, Britney and Quinn, Britney
Row 7 - Nicki; Britney and Nicki; and celebration cake
Row 8 -Hug from Proud Papa Pat; Britney and Linda on boat; Pat (our skipper) on boat

I hope you get the flavor of this lovely graduation with my sister's family and Jeff, Angela and me.  It went by 'way too quickly!

Back home again, and time to start JJ's chapel. Today Dave cut the outer posts and put them in the holes. We're waiting on longer side boards (20 feet to be exact). (see photos below)  When we get those we will continue to square up the outside posts. I'll keep you informed!

Such excitement! Good night, dear Reader, good night!

Dedication of JJs Chapel, Fishing Family, Swarming Bees

Sunday evening: 6PM

Good evening to you, dear Reader! It's been quite a week - all good!

Yesterday, JJ's chapel was officially begun. My neighbors, Kyle and Jeff , with Dave's help, worked on digging the post holes for JJ's chapel. Our ceremony started with a prayer and a toast to the chapel. Wine for the toast was donated by Michael (Door County dry cherry wine). We poured four glasses. As I readied myself to read the dedication, Kyle and Jeff moved closer together and held hands. It was so moving to see them do that! Before we we raised our glasses in a toast I read the following dedication:

"Dear God,
Today we dedicate JJ's chapel.  May JJ's chapel - this simple, tiny chapel we're about to build - be open to all peoples, of all faiths and of all needs and  to those who have no faith.

I ask of you that they come here with peace in their hearts for the Land, for me, and for all the creatures who reside here.

May you guide them here from all corners of the earth, from all walks of life. May those who make this pilgrimage find compassion and comfort and joy here: a lightening of the load they carry.

Help them find their way in the world.

May each person who comes to JJ's chapel and the Land find something special here. Something that uplifts them and adds beauty, love and joy to their lives, and in their hearts. May they take what they find here and add to the greater good of the world.

I don't know how the chapel will reach out to those in need, even how JJ's chapel will evolve, but I trust that You, dear God, will show me and show all of us it's true purpose.

Thank you, dear God, for my helpers who are making this possible. Those here  today, Dave, Kyle and Jeff. Thank you for their sincere efforts. It is truly appreciated.Thank you, too for those who are helping who cannot be here today - my dear family - Jeff and Angela, Linda and family, Judy, Mom and our extended family. Thank you for my dear friends,Michael, Ken and David, Smitty and Chris, Alana and Nancy, and the members of the First Presbyterian Church in Paw Paw, and so many others. Thank you for all the helpers who are in Heaven now - Jack and JJ and so many others who are dear to us. Let their benevolent spirit and Yours, dear God, smile down on this simple chapel and keep it whole.

In your name, dear God we dedicate this chapel with the work we start here today. We dedicate JJ's chapel to you, dear God, and to those we love.

Thank you. "

When I looked up from reading this, Kyle, Jeff and Dave said, "Amen." It was so touching. It was just as I hoped it would be. The day was perfect. The Land was serene. Jeff was a whiz with the post hole digger. He made it look easy!

The photos above show Big Al coming up the lane first, followed by Jeff  in his Bobcat. Both Big Al and "Dude" were part of the ceremony. Other photos - Kyle and Jeff, Jeff and Dave, and finally when all was done, Dave took a photo of me with the ceremonial wine. It was perfect.

Earlier in the week, Chris and Smitty came out to fish with Shawn, Smitty's son. I didn't get any photos of them because of dealing with my cantankous bees (more on that later). Shawn asked me if he could bring out his girlfriend, Haylee, (of 8 years) and I said, "of course." My fishing family is growing and I couldn't be happier! They are all so sweet! Wonderful manners, wonderful fun! Uninvited guests are not welcome, but these  fishing friends always ask. In fact, as I look out the window as I'm writing this, I see Chris and Smitty fishing across the pond.....

Here they come. They just drove up to the cottage.  ....

I go out the door to talk with them and Chris asks about the bees. As he asks about the bees and I'm telling him how docile they are right now, he gets stung on his eye once, and then again! How awful! Chris and Smitty are  now fishing down on the lower level - can you blame them, dear Reader? I think I'm going to have to send my bees to "Bee  Manners School."

And therein lies the tale of my bees this week. They swarmed for three days in a row, and  each time I risked life and limb (no pun intended) by climbing up in the tree and cutting off the branch where they swarmed. They fell into a box I had for them and then I dumped the box over their bee hive. This was repeated for three days. By the third day I was getting a little impatient with them and thumped the upside-down box pretty hard. I don't think they appreciated that. We're always told to "gently" brush the bees out or "gently" tap on the box to get them to drop into the beehive. Ha!

Dave Feltes (my fellow bee classmate) called me back and said the reason they keep swarming is there is already another queen in their old hive body AND in the new hive body. So I quickly make up a "super" for them, and I have yet to see if they found out the third bee hive (super) is just for them. The photos above show the bees in the tree and then hanging on the birdbath. What a sight!

Last by not least -as I may have explained -  earlier in the week I went to University of Wisconsin Soil and Plant Analysis Lab in Madison. The manager has now come up with some plant retardants which may be affecting my perfectly-formed 2-month-old-two-inch-high plants which have refused to grow. We're getting closer to finding out what's wrong with them. It's rather exciting.

And then I received my tax bill for my property (I always pay both installments at once and will do so again this year) and my new tax bill for the 4 acres that I paid for - more on that later.

It was/is 91 humid degrees and boy! it's hot, hot, hot! I'm sweating and realizing this is already summer!

Have a great "summer evening - enjoying the breeze as it cools down, dear Reader. I'll keep you informed about all that's happening out here on the Paradise Ponderosa!

More Welcomed Visitors, University of Wisconsin Soil Lab, A concert and Swarming Bees

Tuesday Night:

There is so much going on all of a sudden, I can hardly catch my breath~ It's been grand!

Friday Michael took me to Maggiano's in Naperville for a delicious lunch. I've been speaking with an Italian accent ever since!

Saturday Smitty brought his wife, Becky and Becky's friend from Batavia (Nancy) to fish. It was great to have them here! The first photo above is of Nancy, the second one is of Becky, Nancy and Smitty, and the third one is of Becky and Nancy on the  "cottage side" of the pond. When Chris brings his wife sometime, we're all going to have a "fisherman's" party out here. Batten down the hatches, everyone!

The pond was really ugly and murky on Saturday, but surprisingly it has really cleaned itself up. I'm amazed! Usually it takes longer, but it was only a "mini" flood, so that must be why it's cleaning up so well. For future visits from Smitty, Chris and the ladies, Dave and I took the round picnic table to the south side. To celebrate the new picnic table spot, Dave and I took a rest from our labors and ate some pizza overlooking the pond. Now I have three picnic tables all around the pond (and creek).

On Sunday I put the new bee hive body in it's new resting place. I didn't look at my bees on Sunday, which is why today I had  a big catastrophe. (More on that later.) I spent Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church listening to the Ensemble Monticello play a beautiful concert for all Paw Paw residents (and surrounding communities). David and Ken started these concerts when they moved here several years ago. The concert highlights the Eulalia Breeze Scholarship Fund for high school students who study music and are in need of some financial help for lessons, sponsorships to music camp or even an instrument. There were four very talented Paw Paw students who performed with the Ensemble Monticello, featuring their hard work in the music field. It was really rewarding to see these students - and their improvement - with wonderful help from the scholarship. I was impressed!

Yesterday I took my beautiful tomato, pepper and basil plants up to the University of Wisconsin Soil Analysis Lab in Madison. You see, dear Reader, my plants are now almost 2 months old and they are still the same size they were 5 -6 weeks ago. They have simply stopped growing. They look in perfect health, their root system is super, there is no sign of deficiency from the soil, but they simply will not grow. This is the second year this has happened. As this is my livelihood, I decided to give my specimens to the experts in Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin. I feel it is in good hands now.   On the way up to Wisconsin I saw this statue of a turkey along I-90, so I pulled off  the road and took a shot (by shot, I mean a photo shot) from inside the car on the shoulder of the road. I want one like this, only I would like it to be of a blue heron. Pretty cool, don't you think?

This morning was a quiet morning with a quiet pair of geese on the pond - yes! it was the real Gordon and Gordeeta. I'm not quite sure what happened to the other noisy couple, but today the "old" Gordon and Gordeeta were back. Sometimes both couples are here  - with the new couple being extremely loud - and sometimes it's just the old couple swimming quietly in the pond like old times.

Just so you don't think I've been lazing about I want you to know, dear Reader, that this morning I planted beets, a few pickling cucumbers, some radishes and geraniums. I watered them all, staked and tied up sweet peas, finished painting a few places I missed on the bee hive body, mulched the strawberries with fresh straw, and mulched other garden beds-- all by 10AM! I didn't rush, but worked steadily.

This afternoon Dave came over and squared up the pins outlining the chapel. Then he sprayed orange paint on all twelve places for the future footings. We are now awaiting a neighbor with a post hole digger to dig the post holes. This will save us a lot of time over digging all 12 of them by hand.

My Farmall Cub was delivered today from Leffleman's and works like a charm. They really did a nice job on it. It still LOOKS old and decrepit, but it runs like a top! I have many places I can use that dear little tractor! Welcome back, tractor!

If that isn't enough excitement for one day, the bees decided I was ignoring them - and they decided to swarm. By mid afternoon today, I saw thousands of bees flying through the air, so I quickly got into my suit and veil and got busy splitting my first hive with my second bee hive, which is now right next to the first bee hive. (see photo above). I thought I had stopped the bees from swarming, but no! After talking with Steve, the beekeeper, who told me the queen is too heavy to fly far... I found them swarming right outside my door in the apple tree. How could I have missed them? It is an amazing sight! I got the ladder out, cut off the branch which fell to the ground - stirring up a hornet's nest, so to speak - and managed to get some of them into the new bee hive.  But alas! I must not have captured the queen for they re-swarmed on the very same tree. I again cut off a branch and took that to the new hive. I had to do it one more time, and the third time I think I managed to get the queen into the new hive. We'll see tomorrow if that worked. What a day! I'm exhausted!

Did I say I was exhausted? I do believe I did...and I AM!

It's been exciting around here - and I'm glad I can share all the excitement with you, dear Reader! May you have a quiet, enjoyable evening appreciating (what I hope is) your calm life. Nighty-night, dear Reader, nighty-night!

Chapel Building Permit, Lunch at Salamandras, and Flood!

5/13/2010

Thursday evening:

I have so much to tell you, dear Reader!  Yesterday was spent mostly in Dixon and today - well - ...  spent looking at my flooded lake.

Let's start with yesterday. I went to the old Dixon Courthouse to get a permit from the zoning department to build JJ's chapel. I think the Dixon Courthouse is so majestic that I had to take a photo of it. Then, before I went to zoning, I stopped by the Tax Assessor's office and talked with Wendy Ryerson about property taxes. I wanted to know how much an outbuilding  - or "shed" as they are calling the chapel - would affect my tax bill. Wendy spent a lot of time with me going over the improvements I may make to the Land. She is such a sweet and proper lady. And lady is just the perfect word to describe her. She took a lot of time with me, even though I know she had zillions of things to do. I so appreciated it!

Then on to the zoning office where the infamous "Mr. Henkel" resides. You might remember Mr. Henkel from the first Pooper letter I shared with you some time ago. I haven't seen Chris for quite a while, so it was good to see him. Dee, his assistant, who is full of vim and vigor and a laugh-a-minute like Chris, helped fill out the application for a permit, and yes I have it now! It is official! I can start to build the chapel!  Chris and Dee's picture is the third photo above. I always enjoy going to visit that office because they are so much fun.

After seeing Ms. Ryerson, Mr. Henkel and Dee, it was off to lunch at the Salamandra restaurant with Alana and Nancy. Alana and I haven't seen Nancy for quite a while, so it was good to catch up. Nancy had some wonderful news! She is in the process of renting a storefront on Rt. 52 in the middle of Dixon for her yoga studio. She's really excited about it. It should open in a few months! Nancy is a gifted yoga teacher, so Dixon is fortunate to have her locate there. The photo above shows Nancy and Alana outside of the soon-to-be yoga studio.

Once I returned home, Dave came over to help. We set the pins again for the 16 x 20 foot chapel. We need to square it up and then we can start digging the holes for the footings. Don't expect quick work on this, dear Reader. All things in their own time.  But we do (slowly) make forward progress. After we reset the pins, we drove over to Casey's Grove Apiary in Esmond run by Steve and Sue - oops! I forgot their last name! They are the cutest couple. Steve, who is a plumber, loves working with his bees. He had many "nucs" set up to hatch queen bees. Just the evening before, Steve had seen a queen actually hatch out of her cell (egg). Steve and Sue showed Dave and me how to put together the frames (that go in the hive body), and the foundation (where the brood and honey are put). We found out  Sue makes the best homemade pickles. If you are interested in some good pickles now or in the future, give Sue a call at 815-494-1403.  You won't be disappointed. The picture above shows Steve torching the hive body I bought from him. The torching helps sanitize the hive body.

You can tell it was a full day yesterday, but a really exciting one. Last night I wanted to write to you in my blog, dear Reader, but I was just too tired. I went to bed early last night, only to be awakened (a lot!) by the thunder and lightning...and the pounding rain.  First thing this morning I took a walk along Willow Creek which was raging and also overflowing into the lake. (Willow Creek is shown in Photos 8 and 9) The smell was terrible. The water was black and frothy. Photo 10 above shows the Road-Between-the-Ponds. The water was half way up my tall boots. I could see the black stenchy water pouring over the Road-Between-the-Ponds. It was entering the lake like an oil slick. (Photos 11 and 12) I could follow exactly how it was flowing into the lake - - in a sort of arc which eventually spread out to the shore near the cottage. Willow Creek flows north on my land and unfortunately, the creek had picked up a lot of feedlot manure, and then dumped it into my lake. Sad to say, but the lake is black and yucky right now. It will be that way for quite some time. Photo 13 shows Willow Creek raging further south of the Lake near Beemerville gate.

But with all the mess and filth, I returned to the cottage and caught sight of the poppies which had just opened. They cheered me up!

Later today it was a perfect day to pull weeds underneath my domestic grapevines at the front of the Land near Beemerville Gate.  I drove my car there instead of walking. The wind was loud but I turned up "Sirius" in my car and listened to the calm, wonderful music as I pulled weeds. The soil was quite wet, allowing the weeds to come out with little effort.

I realize I am really working WITH the weather now. When it's rainy, I do inside chores. When the soil is wet, Ipull weeds and plant veggies and flowers. When the sun is shining I water the plants and mow. Working with the weather makes one much more contented. There is such a pleasant rhythm to working with nature.

My friend, Stig, called today. He is back in Rockford for a short while. I think I might have told you he married a lovely Asian lady after 25 years of being a bachelor (after being divorced). He says he really has taken to marriage.  I told him he was just waiting for the right one!  I've been single for 12 years now, so (based on Stig's example) I guess I have 12-13 years to go before I find the right one. ... I'll be pretty ancient by then!  I hope to see Stig before he goes back to Thailand again. As always, it is good to hear from him.

Well, dear Reader, I think I've caught you up on most of the last two days. They have been filled to the brim! I continually marvel at how fortunate I am to have this lovely paradise and so many wonderful friends and family. I appreciate it so!

Finally let's give a shout out to Nicki and Jeff on their graduation from ASU tomorrow!

Good night, dear Reader. Sleep tight.

Cleaning up the Big Willow, Planting flowers and Visitors

5/11/2010

Tuesday night:

I'm so tired I can't see straight! So forgive me, dear Reader, if i am brief tonight.

A couple of days ago, Dave and I cleaned up the huge fallen willow. The photos are of Dave dragging a large chunk of it up the high road, around the pond, and down to the burn pile on the other side.  The area is almost cleaned up now. The last huge piece of willow (photo 3) is waiting Derek and his earthmover.  It's really going to look different when the old willow is gone. ... Dave and I straightened up the second generation willow next to the old one. The young willow was under the fallen tree and couldn't get back  up until we tied it to a piece of rebar.

Sunday David and Ken brought over two of their friends - Mike and Bob. Mike hadn't see the Land. I hope he comes back when it's a sunny, warmer day!

This morning after the thunderstorms, I photographed foam on Willow Creek. I wonder what makes the foam?

This afternoon, Dave and I planted all kinds of flowers. After he left I distributed lots of manure tea to all the new plants. It smells pretty stinky around here!  I worked in my winter coat because it was so cold. Seems we had June weather in April, and now we're having April weather in May! I'm ready for some sunshine and warmth!

I spent Mother's Day in Iowa with my dear Mother. She is a saint. At nearly 92 years of age she is a wonder - driving all around in her car and walking with ease every where she goes. Amazing! It was great to be with her again! She's my rock.

I hope you had a good Mother's Day, too, dear Reader. Our mothers are so precious. So are our children. I feel so fortunate to have such a wonderful family.

It's time for lights out here, dear Reader. Nighty-night.

Crappies Galore and Thunderstorms

5/7/2010

Good evening, dear Reader!

My! How the weather changes! Yesterday was so lovely, calm and warm. Smitty and Chris came out to fish...and oh, how the crappies were waiting to bite! Smitty said they caught 53 (or was it 56?) in one hour! The total for the day was 76.  Not bad!  Didn't I tell you this is Paradise here?

The photos above show Chris and Smitty across the lake. You can see the lake isn't totally "clear" - like it was a few days ago. (It's still really clear underneath the algae, though.) I used to be upset whenever algae formed on the lake. After the lake was drained and gravel taken out in 1983, it used to be crystal clear all the time. Now, of course, there are (were) trees all around the lake, plus the "helicopter" seeds from maples trees, not to mention "cotton" from the cottonwood trees. Ken Clodfelter, the regional fish biologist, has received many a call from me. Patiently he has explained to me why there is algae year after year. Now I realize that algae doesn't hurt anything, is there for a reason, and  gives the little fish some cover. My worrying days are over and I even appreciate algae. Sometimes I even use it in my garden beds.

Speaking of garden beds, I bought several flats of flowers to be planted around the cottage. (See photo) They will have to wait now until next week when it warms up.

Is there life beyond mowing? I think not. When Chris and Smitty came out yesterday I bet they weren't at all surprised to find me...welll......mowing.

This morning, after such a lovely day yesterday, the skies opened up and poured. Did the flashes of lightning and/or thunder wake you up early this morning, dear Reader? Not the kind of weather to be running outside to the "restroom!" But we certainly needed the rain. So no complaints here.

I talked with Chad Lampkin, recommended by Ed Begley, Jr. - remember? He has all kinds of ideas of how to install a shower in the cottage here, so maybe I will before winter. It's always enlightening talking with Chad. Hopefully he will visit soon.

Lovely lunch today with Michael in Geneva. It was a nice break from (yes!) mowing and working outside all this week. I must confess we had a bubbly glass of raspberry champagne from Italy, along with our crabcakes. When I returned home the cold north wind had begun in earnest and it was just plain cold. I haven't had a fire in the woodstove for weeks now, but I do tonight. And it feels great!

On a sad note, yesterday would have been JJ's 36th birthday. I miss him so. Designing the chapel is great therapy for me, and I will enjoy every moment of building the chapel in JJ's memory.

Our weather has progressed or slid backwards - from summer to winter. May you be all snuggled in and cozy, dear Reader. Nighty-night.

Painting Supers and Excluding Queens

5/5/2010

Wednesday night:

Working with the bees on Monday proved much less "stingy." In fact, I worked in their hive for a LONG time and not one sting. I was looking for the queen bee. She had gotten into the second "story" (called a "super") and laid her brood. It's better to have her in the deep hive body and keep her there to lay her brood, so the supers can be used for honey storage. I finally found her back in the deep hive body. She is quite the egg-laying queen. I put on a metal bar-like contraption (queen excluder) to keep her in the deep hive.

Because the honey flow has been great due to the wonderful weather we've had, I will be needing to split the hive soon. Sooooo, I painted my new supers to make another bee hive.  (See picture above) I got a little carried away and decided to paint the old bench, too.

Chris and Smitty came out last evening to fish. Smitty said the water was "so clear!"  And it is! They seemed to have a good time on the south bank away from the strong wind. It was good to see them again!

I mowed again this morning. I was the very epitome of a Glamour Magazine "Don't." This time I tied a floral old-fashioned bonnet on top of the large ear phones I wear. Quite a sight! I am such a character!

Sitting on the tractor mowing along is so comforting, so peaceful. I mowed around the lower gardens and under the willows. The sun played peek-a-boo with the clouds. The wind was  quite breezy. As the morning  warmed up it was just Heaven on the Land. Truly a paradise! And the newly cut grass looks  so restful.

Tonight I made a salad with some of my own lettuce and mesclun mix growing by the back door. I added my favorite arugula - along with young French Breakfast radishes, and freshly picked asparagus. Topped with vinegar and oil and Parmesan cheese - yummy! It doesn't get any better than this. I wish you could have joined me, Dear Reader!

Sleep tight!

Lumber delivery for Chapel, Gorgeous weather

5/2/2010

Sunday night:

Saturday just before noon some of the basic lumber to build the chapel, was delivered. We arranged to have it delivered on Saturday so Dave could be here to supervise.

I've also received offers of more donations of wood and windows from David and Ken and also Fran and Floyd Sellers. Dave and I will pick up these donations soon. The chapel is really coming together! I just have to picture how to arrange all the different and unique windows so the chapel looks really great. When I finally gather all the materials you are cordially invited, dear Reader, to visit the Land and look at the windows. I welcome your imput!

Also, I ordered 100 more panels of privacy fence for the west side of my property (good fences make good neighbors!).  You can see by the photos that Menards delivered  all the wood, so now the Land is ready for some building! It will be a lot of fun and I can hardly wait!

...But wait I must as planting and mowing still continues. I love to mow and plant, so I'm not being tooooo impatient. As Dave says, "It will all get done." My motto is "Little by little, step by step." And voila! when I look back and the chapel and the House-on-the-Hill are all built, I will say, "My! that happened pretty quickly!"

I missed Smitty and Chris fishing out here today. I pictured them rolling, rolling, rolling on the river, fishing away! What a perfect day it was!

I thought I would share some photos of some small lilac bushes on the Land. The first two photos are from above Willow Creek near my eastern border. The third photo is of the lilac bush at Steward Lane. The lilacs smell heavenly!

The photo below was taken early morning several days ago as the moon was exiting to the west. It was quiet and serene that morning with the moon smiling on the Land.

I am missing my new friends in Door County, Al and Marilyn, Jinx, Eunice and Larry. I also miss the little cottage on Whitefish Bay that I looked at, which is for sale. How I wish I could be two (or more!) places at once!

I started work before 6 this morning, so am quite ready for bed. Floyd and Fran gave me two plum trees, (they have more for you, dear Reader, free if you would like one), and some rhubarb plants. Dave helped me plant the trees and rhubarb. Later, after Dave left, I worked with my bees and now have several bee stings (because I was careless). I'm going to nurse my wounds with sleep. Good idea, don't you think?

So buzz, buzz, buzz, and good night to you, dear Reader!
